The Ventura Film Festival began in 2004 and has exhibited numerous cinematic works, generally exceeding 200 films per summer season, and has generated excitement within the global cinema community. Over the years, the festival has evolved into a major cultural celebration that assembles filmmakers, environmental advocates, and audiences from across the globe.

Distinguished events have encompassed showcasing renowned filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the first ever world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend check here along with Ian Cairns, quadruple world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA athlete martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which encompassed presenting the entire award-winning cast of West Side Story, encompassing Academy Award winner/Golden Globe recipient George Chakiris along with Golden Globe recipient/Oscar nominee Russ Tamblyn. The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was selected to take part, together with many of Hollywood's biggest stars, in the half-century commemoration of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Academy Award winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, along with Golden Globe honoree Russ Tamblyn at the iconic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This celebration also functioned as the official BluRay launch by Fox and MGM of the timeless West Side Story, which is commonly viewed by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time.
